IHF coordinates many activities for international students.
FRIENDSHIP HOSTS are matched with a student in a non-residential program. Host families agreed to contact student regularly, offering friendship and involvement in family activities, community events, trips to the mall. Students do not reside with their hosts. Hosting is open to all Baton Rouge area residents, all ages, single or married.
WELCOME PARTIES are held at beginning of each semester to welcome new international students to LSU. The parties also introduce IHF members, host families and the Baton Rouge community to the students.
INTERCULTURAL EXCHANGES extend to interested teachers in area schools the opportunity to have a student from a specific country speak on life in that country. Additionally, international students enjoy speaking to clubs and organizations in the community. Requests for international speakers should be directed to the IHF office, (225) 578-3015.
COMMUNITY ORIENTATION occurs when community volunteers conduct a shopping tour and brief orientation to Baton Rouge at the beginning of each semester for new students. Volunteers can assist with the tours.
SPOUSAL ASSISTANCE is provided to spouses of international students. Activities for spouses, information on assistance programs and clubs are provided through the IHF office.
